The Quicken Interchange Format (QIF) file contains financial data. It is in a text format readable by programs. The format helps transfer data between Quicken files or websites and Quicken software. Originally QIF was developed by Intuit. Now other finance and accounting software support it too. To import a QIF file in Quicken: Go to File -> Import -> QIF file. Choose the file location. Select the destination account.
The .qif extension refers to two formats: Quicken Interchange Format (QIF) and QuickTime Image File (QIF). Quicken Interchange Format (QIF) is used by Quicken finance software. It imports and exports transactions, accounts, categories between Quicken versions. It also shares data with other software. QIF files have a structure of plain text data.
The QuickTime Image File (QIF) is created by Apple QuickTime. QuickTime handles multimedia storage and playback. Visit the Apple website to learn about the QIF graphic format and QuickTime Player. QIF image files belong to the graphics category.
To open .qif files on Windows, right-click the file. Choose Open with, then Choose another app. Select the desired program. If you don’t see the program, click More apps or Look for another app. This finds more applications.
Check the file extension if the above doesn’t open the file. QIF files move Quicken transactions between registers. Or they transfer data between Quicken and other programs supporting QIF. The format has text (ASCII) enabling this.
