The crd format was developed by Martin Leclerc and Mario Dorion in 1992. It could write lyrics and chords. The files were saved as CRD. Leclerc and Dorion stopped developing it. Johan Vromans replaced it with ChordPro in 2016. ChordPro now supports the legacy crd format. CRD files may use extensions like .chord or .pro. You can open a CRD file with wxchordpro or ChordPro. A crd file contains song lyrics and guitar chords and tabs. CRD files can be opened by a text editor. Compatible tools may export crd files to other formats. Cardfile distributed with Windows uses crd files. The crd file is a formatted text file with guitar chords and lyrics. We try to assist with handling crd files. A CRD file contains personal information like names, addresses, and phone numbers. It also contains a digital signature identifying individuals or companies. CRD files enable users to securely access multiple websites with a single “virtual ID card”. The card sends only the digital signature to identify the user, not personal information. Companies can issue CRD file “cards” to employees to authenticate within the organization.
To open a CRD file, first install software that supports the format. Microsoft Windows, Windows 3.x, and Windows NT 4.0 open CRD files. If double-clicking the file does not open it in the default program, manually associate CRD files with a compatible program. Go to File Properties, and under Open With choose the program to associate CRD files with.
CRD files were used in old Windows operating systems to store personal information. They can be imported into newer Windows versions using conversion software like Cardmate. The current CardSpace technology that creates CRD files is not supported in Windows after 2011.
