The PKF file format is an Audition Peak File. Every time you open an audio file, Adobe Audition creates an accompanying PKF file. It saves the PKF file in the same location. The PKF file shows the waveform of the audio. After generating a PKF file, Adobe Audition does not need to re-render the waveform each time you open the file. This allows Audition to open processed files faster. Adobe introduced PKF in Audition CS5.5.
PKF files provide a visual display of an audio file’s waveform. Once generated, the waveform display does not need replacing when reopening the audio or project file.
To open a PKF file, select and install a supporting program. Right-click the PKF file and choose “Open with”. Select the program to associate it with PKF files. If it does not open, update the program. Or scan for viruses.
The PKF format allows exporting between audio and video editing programs. This helps content creators move work between applications.
