The WEBLOC file extension refers to Mac OS X Website Location format files. These files contain the URL of a webpage. When you double-click a WEBLOC file, the webpage opens in your default browser. For example, if Google Chrome is your default, the page opens there. However, you can open WEBLOC files in Windows with WeblocOpener software.
If Windows shows two files for a WEBLOC: the .webloc and ._webloc, keep the .webloc. To open an unknown WEBLOC file, drag and drop it into an open browser window. Most browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Opera in MacOS can open WEBLOC files this way.
If a WEBLOC file is corrupted, ask the source to supply another copy. Errors can occur when copying the file. Alternatively, remove .webloc in File Explorer and replace with .txt. Then copy the URL between tags and paste into a browser to open the webpage. You can also associate .webloc with software in the Windows Registry to open them.
