PKPASS files are used for tickets, cards, coupons, or loyalty packages. They contain images, data and other elements to generate items for a wallet app. To open a PKPASS file you need an iOS or Android device with a wallet app.
On iOS, tap the file in the Apple Wallet app. On Android, use a third-party wallet app. To view contents without an app, rename the file extension to ZIP and extract the files.
The PKPASS file is a ZIP archive containing signed files describing the pass. Multiple PKPASS files can combine into a PKPASSES archive. Contents may include PNG images and JSON files.
PKPASS technology originated in the US with Apple’s Passbook app, now called Wallet. The file has a template, private key and data package.
Some programs supporting PKPASS files are Android wallet apps and Apple’s Passbook. If a PKPASS file is not corrupted but you have trouble opening it, rename the extension to ZIP and open in an archiver to view contents and ensure necessary files are present. Contact the wallet app developer if issues persist.
